We spent the evening in company of Porky's Hot Rockin' and Lloyd Tripp's family band at the Witham Public Hall in Essex to see the new year in. It was a bittersweet occasion as it represented the last Jump Back Boogie gig for a while. Pamela McClean and Adrian Waters have decided to 'park' the club for a while. For four and a half years they have bought the best and the most varied acts to the club, from Jack Rabbit Slim to the Jive Aces, the Del Rio Ramblers to Phil Haley and the Comments, Marc Robinson and the Counterfeit Crickets to Rusti Steel and the Star Tones, Sugarfoot Stomp to Bill Fadden and the Rhythmbusters. It's sad to see such a club closing it's doors, for however long, maybe, just maybe it will rise again.....there's a song there somewhere.
For the first time though regular readers, we have done the reflective thing. It's now nearly eleven years since the Bettajive Review first appeared in UK Rock, now UK Rock n Roll Magazine, and this website is two years old next month. In that time, traffic through the website daily, has increased by ten fold from the early days. Updates such as blogs, and especially articles on the weekenders page and recordings reviews, regularly set new single day or weekly records, with sometimes numbers up fifty times the normal day rate.
This is what June and I pride ourselves on. We go to an event, and endeavour to give you the reader a full idea of the ambience of the site, surroundings and sounds both literally and pictorially. We take it very seriously, it involves a lot of work and at times we may indeed seem unsociable. Taking the Rockabilly Rave for example. i think last year, we saw and wrote about around 30 acts over four days. There's a similar amount of quality acts this year.
This year will however see us switch gears somewhat. Regular readers will recall that June has had a full hip replacement operation, at the end of 2014 in fact. Rehabilitation is a steady progression and as I mentioned last blog, has slowed us down. We love the music and with that we love to dance. It's not been possible these past few weeks, nor will it be so for a month or two yet.
The events we plan to attend will not necessarily be the ones that have made up the bulk of Bettajive Reviews in the past. It's adding variety to our rockin'. Same with clubs, with the loss of jump Back Boogie, we will have a gap in our calender, and will look to maybe attend clubs we have never been to before.
