We started with the resurgence of Jump Back Boogie at Witham Public Hall, Essex and their presentation of local band, Race With The Devil. Now under the sole ownership of DJ Adrian Waters, this club has one of the finest venues in Essex to host it's gigs.
The band, unsurprisingly, have a great love for early Gene Vincent, and in particular the Cliff Gallup sound as lead guitarist Dave Elliot emulates the master picker, to great effect. Solid sets from the guys, and guest DJ Domino. Next up at JBB, Rusti steel and the Star Tones on May 14th.
The following night we checked out Lew Lewis and the Twilight Trio on Broadway. No not that Broadway, just yet, this is where the Royal British Legion Club is situated in Yaxley, Cambridgeshire.
Top dance night this was, with DJ Rebel Ted depping on the decks, and spinning an all vinyl show. The group, mixed up the flavours well, blending their own material with some classics, Lew fronting and vocalising, with three seasoned musicians keeping it real behind him. Cracking weekend this one was.
Another good dance night, and the club also hosted one of the many Atomic Jive heats that are taking place over the country, the winners of this one being Aaron Killner and Billie Dean.
Carlos was excellent again, just the one set, but a worthwhile set it was too. Good to hear our particular faves, like 'Tall Tall Trees', 'Develine' and 'Stone Killer'.
Top night out, and I even got a cake for me birthday.
The All Dayer I mentioned at the top of the blog? Well that was the Big Jive, down in Worthing, Sussex. Too much to mention here, so if you check out the section here http://www.thebettajivereview.com/reviews-of-public-events-festivals-and-car-shows.html there's a comprehensive review there, with a gallery as well
So, if you want your event covered, CD reviewed, band profile written, liner notes composed or whatever to do with Rock n Roll, give us a shout. 'Til next month, we'll see you on the dancefloor.
